【About Hakka in Taiwan】
Hakka people in Taiwan immigrated from Mainland China since the 16th century. Currently there are about 4.6 millions of Hakka people, about 20.4% of the total population in Taiwan, mainly distributed in the south and north area. Because they immigrated from different places, the Hakka accent in different area of Taiwan is various from each others.
Being a guest anywhere, and being home anywhere, Hakka group learns to adapt to the new environment during continuous immigration and moving. No matter how terrible the environment is, they still insist on passing down the language and culture and establish the characteristics of working hard, being diligent and simple. Vagabond life and straitened environment make Hakka people understand how to value things more. Because they value resources, they are industrious, thrifty, and serious to live their lives. Because they value relationships, they are enthusiastic, love having guests and treasure family. This also becomes the biggest feature of Hakka group.
